Nepra issues generation licence to KANUPP

ISLAMABAD - Owing to increase in power generation amid worsening energy crisis, National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has issued amended generation license to Karachi Nuclear Power Plant (KANUPP), which has increased its power generation capacity to 36MW.
Official sources have informed that increase in power generation capacity of Karachi Nuclear Power Plant (KANUPP) has been achieved without any major change in the existing generators particularly and infrastructure generally. However, there will be no increase in the nuclear power tariff despite the growth in power generation. They told that supply of 86MW electricity to the Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) is on the cards.
It is worth mentioning here that NEPRA had issued a license to KANUPP for 50MW in 2005. KANUPP has been busy in supplying 50MW of electric power to KESC at the cost of Rs1 and 12paisa of per unit of electricity.

Further, electric power at Karachi Nuclear Power Plant (KANUPP) is being generated with the uranium that is extracted with native reserves of the country.
