Kitchen items prices up by 1.77 per cent

ISLAMABAD  - The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI), for the week ended on July 3, for the lowest income group up to Rs.3,000, has registered increase of 1.77 per cent over the previous week. The SPI for the week under review in the above mentioned group was recorded at 207.99 as against 204.37 registered in the previous week, according to Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS). The weekly SPI has been computed with base 2000-2001=100 covering 17 urban centres and 53 essential items for all income groups and combined. The SPI for the combined group registered increase of 2.06 per cent by rising from 195.03 in the previous week to 199.04 in the week under review. As compared to the corresponding week of last year, the SPI for combined group in the week under review witnessed increase of 28.37 per cent. The SPI for the groups falling in the income brackets of 3001-5000, 5001-12000 and above 12000 witnessed increase of 1.74, 1.70 and 2.40 respectively over the previous week. During the week under review average prices of only two items registered decrease, while that of 28 items increased with the remaining 23 items' prices unchanged. The items which recorded decrease in their average prices during the week under review included bananas and red chillies. The items which registered increase in their prices included, tomatoes, potatoes, kerosene, diesel, petrol, LPG(11 kg cylender.), chicken (farm), wheat flour (average quality), egg hen (farm), garlic, wheat (average quality), sugar, onions, gram pulse (washed), firewood, coarse latha, rice basmati (broken), gur, milk (fresh), moong pulse (washed), washing soap (Nylon), masoor pulse (washed), mash pulse (washed), mustard oil, cigarettes, beef, vegetable ghee (loose) and curd. The items with no change in their average prices during the week under review included, rice (irri-6), mutton, bread plain (mid size), milk powdered (Nido), vegetable ghee (tin), cooking oil (tin), salt (powdered), tea packet, tea (prepared), cooked beef plate, cooked dal plate, lawn, voil printed, shirting, sandal gents (Bata), sandal ladies (Bata), chappal spng. (Bata), electricity bulb (60wats), match box, bath soap (Lifebuoy), gas charges (up to 3.3719MMBTU), electricity charges (1-100 unit), and telephone local call.
