Committee to reconcile amount payable by KESC to Pepco

ISLAMABAD (APP) - Ministry of Water and Power on Monday set up a technical committee to reconcile the amount payable by Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) to Pakistan Electric Power Company (PEPCO). The decision was made in a high level meeting held here to review the power situation in Karachi and payment of outstanding dues by KESC to PEPCO chaired by Minister for Water and Power Raja Pervez Ashraf. It was decided that the KESC will make regular payment of its current dues to PEPCO on monthly basis while Finance division will make 90% payment to PEPCO directly from the subsidy amount of KESC. The meeting discussed in detail the power situation in Karachi and issue of outstanding dues of PEPCO payable by KESC. The Minister said that Karachi is the business hub of the country and KESC should make all out efforts on war footing basis for uninterrupted power supply to the people. He asked KESC to make investment for setting up of new power plants and improve the existing power generation and distribution system for smooth power supply to the consumers and ensure proper recovery to reduce losses. Earlier, the CEO, KESC informed the meeting that currently KESC is facing a power shortfall of 100 MW and load shedding of 45 to 60 minutes is being carried out in the city. The power situation is stable and in the coming days there will be no deficit in power supply in winter. The meeting was also attended by Advisor to Prime Minister on Finance, Advisor to Prime Minister on Petroleum, Governor State Bank, Secretaries of Ministry of Water and Power and Finance, Advisor Ministry of Water and Power, Chairman WAPDA, MD PEPCO, CEO of KESC and senior officials of Ministry, PEPCO, Finance division and KESC.
