ISLAMABAD - A Senate body, slamming violations of provincial quota pertaining employments in Pakistan State Oil (PSO), has directed Additional Secretary Petroleum Abid Saeed to hold inquiry and give complete report within one month in this regard.
The Senate committee, aggravated over violations of provincial quota in state-owned oil giant (Pakistan State Oil) from 2007-2012, has shown its serious anger over promotions in PSO and recommended the Managing Director PSO Naeem Yahya Mir to give complete details that how many officials have been promoted before 2007 promotion policy. It also recommended giving details as to why priorities were given to few officials and others were ignored. Sub-committee also directed officials to give details of appointments made for certain projects and also to give report that either those people completed the projects or left before projects completion.
A meeting of the sub-committee of the Senate special committee was held at the Parliament House here on Wednesday with Senator Zahid Khan in the chair to get detailed briefing on appointments, promotions and transfers in PSO. Convener of the Senate body Senator Zahid Khan said provincial quota has not been observed in PSO as more people have been inducted from Sindh and other provinces have not been given due share in the company. He said when Establishment Division has already ordered to observe provincial quota religiously then why PSO is reluctant to observe quota system and nepotism is ruling the roost in the company.
During the course of this meeting, Managing Director Pakistan State Oil (PSO) Naeem Yahya Mir revealed that before 2007 no specific mechanism existed for promotions in the department and all the promotions were made on seniority basis.

The Senate committee further instructed MD PSO to do away with the discrepancy in provincial quota and if any province has been given extra job employments then its share should be rationalized in future and do not deprive any province from its due share/right. The Senate committee further instructed to always advertise the posts nationwide rather than in few cities.
