KARACHI - Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry has launched the “Empowerment of the Poor – Right to do Business” programme with the collaboration of Small and Medium Enterprises Authority and United Nation Development Programme.
This was stated by by KCCI President Mian Abrar Ahmad while addressing to a seminar here on Friday. He highlighted that the Karachi Chamber membership espouse all the segments of the business community viz large industries, SME’s, cottage industries, trading concerns, small traders etc. Abrar said that KCCI believes in the integration and expansion of SMEs network which play imperative role to strengthen the economy.
He also voiced for women empowerment and informed that chamber had always supported for the progression of micro and small and medium enterprises. In this regard KCCI had also urged the financial institutions to provide soft loans without collateral to the micro entrepreneurs, he added. President KCCI articulated that the Karachi Chamber is mindful of the lawful rights and obligations of small traders.
Although a great number of small traders are not the members of Karachi Chamber but to recognise their importance and to encourage them to participate in the economy with other players, a special committee for small traders is functioning at chamber, he maintained.
He appreciated the partnership between Smeda and UNDP for legal and social recognition of these neglected economic players termed it as much awaited step in the right direction.
