GAIN to improve Salt iodization
LAHORE (PR): According to estimates, nearly 50 million people in Pakistan are suffering from iodine deficiency while 70 per cent of the total population in the country is at risk of Iodine Deficiency Disorders. Studies reveal that more than five million children born every year in Pakistan are unprotected against brain damage while 36 per cent mothers and 23 per cent pre-school children are suffering from iodine deficiency in Pakistan. Pakistan is rated 6th among the countries where iodine deficiency is a serious health problem.
* Quality Assurance & Control is one of the key challenges to achieve the USI targets in Pakistan and Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) in collaboration with other development partners is playing key role to adopt the innovative approaches to improve the quality of salt iodization.
Martin Dow-Biocodex
to supply Enflor
KARACHI (PR): Martin Dow Ltd., a leading pharmaceutical company, has entered into an alliance with Biocodex, which is a multinational pharmaceutical company based in France.
The Alliance was made through an agreement inked recently at the Biocodex head office in Paris. The agreement was signed by M. Jawed Akhai, Chairman Martin Dow Ltd. Pakistan and Jean Marie Lefevre, CEO, Biocodex.
Tariq Wajid (CEO) and Dr. Munir Anwar (COO), Martin Dow, were also present on the occasion. On behalf of Biocodex, the signing ceremony was attended by Julien Dureisseix (Export Director International Division), Eric Lefebvre-Delattre (Regional Manager) and Virginie Duchesne (Area Manager).
Under the agreement, Martin Dow has acquired commercial rights in Pakistan to market Biocodex product, Enflor. This extension in Martin Dow’s portfolio, through the addition of renowned probiotic, the original Saccharomyces boulardii (Enflor) which is a known and tested anti-diarrheal, will provide world class solution to diarrhea patients in Pakistan.
Nestlé, Aurat Foundation joint event
LAHORE (PR): Nestlé Pakistan, in collaboration with Aurat Foundation, organised an event to commemorate International Women’s Day by providing a platform where inspiring, successful women shared their stories with others.
The theme for the event was “Making it happen: inspirational stories of Pakistani women turning the tide”. Speakers include Fiza Farhan (2015 Forbes ‘30 under 30’ social entrepreneurs list); Muniba Mazari (Artist, Activist, Motivational speaker), Justice (retd.) Nasira Iqbal, Nasreen Zehra (Director, Aurat Foundation) and Mira Phailbus (Educator).
It was moderated by Nadia Jamil. Each speaker told their personal life story that was followed by a Q&A session with the audience.
“There is a business case for gender balance but we believe that gender balance needs to envelop all segments of the society. Women are an integral part of the society and should be an essential part of the workforce, whether it’s formal or informal economy.” said Waqar Ahmad – Head of Corporate Affairs for Nestlé Pakistan.
Nadia Jamil called the panelists “powerhouses” in themselves who had made the lives of other women better. She said she had been influenced by each of the panelists.

Tetra Pak obtains certification
LAHORE (PR): Tetra Pak can now supply Forest Stewardship Council™ (FSC™) labelled packages from anywhere in the world, having received FSC Chain of Custody (CoC) certification for all of its converting plants and market companies. It represents one of FSC’s largest multi-site certifications, covering a total of 92 facilities worldwide.
FSC is an international, non-governmental organisation that promotes responsible management of the world’s forests. Its CoC certification allows wood fibres to be traced at every step through the supply chain; providing assurance that any products bearing the FSC logo support forest management that adopts environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial and economically viable management practices.
“Consumers are increasingly aware of the environmental impact of the products they buy, expecting businesses to help them make better choices. LWMC cleanliness arrangements
LAHORE (PR): LWMC to ensure waste free environment on the occasion of Horse & Cattle Show 5 March 2015. Lahore. . Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) has made special cleanliness arrangements to ensure neat and clean sanitation situation on the occasion of Horse & Cattle Show being held in the city at three venues including Fortress Stadium, Qadafi Stadium and Race Course.
Sanitary staff along with machinery has been deployed in various shifts to maintain cleanliness round the clock.
An awareness campaign has also been carried out to sensitise people about significance of clean environment and their role to maintain it. While inaugurating Horse & Cattle Show ceremony at Race Course, Chairman LWMC Khawaja Ahmad Hassan issued instructions to keep campaign until the end of the show. He also visited the stall and participated in leafleting activity along with LWMC mascot. Director General Parks & Horticulture Authority Shakil Ahmad, DO PHA Javaid Shaida, LWMC head of communication department Jamil Khawar and Senior Manager Operation Suhail Anwar Malik were also present on this occasion.
