Sarwar highlights Pak  trade routes connecting Asia with Europe

LAHORE
The Punjab Governor Ch Muhammad Sarwar recently visited the Republic of Latvia to participate in a high level conference on Transport, logistics and trade routes, titled, “Connecting Asia with Europe” held at Latvian Capital Riga from 2nd to 5th of June.
The theme of the conference was to discuss new strategies for trade routes and regional connectivity between Asia and Europe. High level delegations from more than thirty countries attended the moot. During his opening speech, the Governor dilated upon the relevance of strategic geographic location of Pakistan for regional connectivity and trade routes between Asia and Europe. The investment friendly policies of the present Government were emphasised and participants were invited to consider investing in the road, railway, port and maritime facilities in Pakistan. The Governor further appreciated the theme of the conference and highlighted importance of joint strategies for developing trade routes for developing economies.
He emphasised that investment in such mega projects would result in employment generation and enhance opportunities for trade and commerce for mutual benefits in the shape of socio-economic development of the region, ultimately leading to poverty alleviation. The dividends of these developments would not only help regional countries but would also trickle down for uplift of global economy. Besides these official engagements, the Government also met leading businessmen of Latvia and visited a pharmaceutical unit, a production plant which is state of the art storage facility in Riga. The Governor also participated in the opening session of the conference which was inaugurated jointly by Latvian Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Transport, Edgars Rinkevics and Anrijs Matiss. Furthermore, the Governor attended a reception hosted by the Prime Minister of Latvia, Mrs Laimdota Strauguma. Besides exchange of pleasantries, the Governor thanked the Prime Minister for invitation extended to Pakistan for participation in the conference. During his visit, the Governor called on the Deputy Speaker Andrejs Klementjevs, Deputy Speaker of Saeima (Latvian Parliament). The Governor thanked the Latvian Government for their support in the EU Parliament for the grant of GSP+ Status to Pakistan.
