Govt to prepare feasibility report on power buying from Turkmenistan

ISLAMABAD - In a major development on buying electricity, Pakistan and Turkmenistan have decided to prepare feasibility of the project in October this year.
This was announced after the meeting of Federal Minister for Water and Power Khawja Muhammad Asif and Vice-Premier and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Rashid Meredov, here on Friday. It was decided that this feasibility would be prepared in the joint meeting of the joint working group of both countries.
According to Ministry of Water and Power officials, during the meeting Asif said that energy is life line for this region and cooperation in energy sector would strengthen geopolitical relations of both countries. He also said that both countries have brotherly ties and common heritage. He also welcomed the extended support of Turkmenistan and expressed determination that Pakistan would pursue energy related projects on fast track. The Minister also informed that proposal presented by Turkmenistan are doable and dedicated transmission line can be installed to meet the energy needs of the country.
