Power prices likely to be raised due to increasing theft

ISLAMABAD : Electricity price is likely to be increased as theft expenditures would also be transferred to customers. According to a news website, Central Power Purchasing Agency has written a letter to National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) that cost of power generation in January was almost 73 billion rupees while around 35 paisa per unit electricity has been stolen and utilized in losses. Around 59 billion worth of electricity has been generated from oil in January which increased per unit production cost of electricity price from 9.58 rupees to 11.72 rupees. The NEPRA will hear the case regarding increase in the electricity prices after calculating the fuel adjustment charges.
