LAHORE – With no hope of revival in near future, Pakistan Railways has left with only 100 locomotives in its total fleet. Among the existing 100, 90 engines are being used for passenger sector while other 10 are busy in freight operation.
“The promises made by the present government to financially assist public utility could not proved true, that was why PR management is closing operation of trains almost on daily basis due to severe shortage of locomotives,” said an official of department and requested not to mention his name.
The Pakistan Railways, in past two weeks, has closed 22 trains on different routes only in Lahore Division. The existing trains are being hit by frequent delays due to emergence of sudden technical problems and shortage of oil.
It is pertinent to note that except from only two trains, Business Express and Karakuram Express, almost every long-distance train hit by eight to 10 hour delay, he added.
