USC finalises Ramazan relief package

ISLAMABAD – The Utility Stores Corporation (USC) has finalized its arrangements to launch much-needed Ramazan Relief Package 2012 from this Sunday in order to provide some relief to the price-stricken masses.
Under Ramazan Relief Package 2012 the USC will reduce the prices of 16 daily essential items up to Rs.15 per kg for which the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet had already approved the package worth Rs.2.5 billion subsidy.
Out of 16 essential items Rs.15 per kg reduction has been approved in the prices of Ghee/oil where as the prices of rice, pulses, small gram, white gram, dates, ‘chakki basin’ Sella rice and broken rice would be reduced Rs.10 for Ramzan Relief Package.10 per cent reduction would be taken place in the prices of spices and beverages including Rooh-i-Afza etc and Rs.6 per kg in the price of floor.
More than one thousand food and non-food items including branded beverages will also be made available on subsidized rates on USC general stores comprising more than 5700 stores.
It is pertinent to mention here that the government had given a subsidy worth Rs 2.2 billion for Ramazan relief package in last year and now USC has asked the government to give a subsidy worth Rs 2.5 billion.
