2 Mangla units resume 220MW generation

MIRPUR, AJK - Two out of ten units of the countrys second largest Mangla Dam, having the capacity of about 220 megawatt, on Saturday resumed power generation after remaining shut for 13 days due to a serious fault in the high-tension power supply line in switch yard of the power house, official sources said. The sources told The Nation that the Wapda and Pepco are actively engaged in rectifying the serious fault to ensure resumption of power generation from remaining eight units of the Mangla dam. The Wapda has already declared to resume power generation from all units of the Mangla power station by July 25. Federal Water & Power Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf has strongly directed the Wapda and Pepco to ensure the resumption of power production from Mangla power house by July 25 to reduce power shortage in the country including AJK through bringing the current short fall of about 2900 MW of power at decline to maximum extent. As reported earlier serious fault developed on the night of June 28 in the high-tension oil-filled cable at Mangla power station caused the suspension of power generation process after all the units reached to complete halt.
