Islamabad - The exports from Finland to Pakistan increased by 78 percent, in terms of value, during the financial year 2014-15, eventually culminating in 83 million Euros in 2015.
Matti Naakka, Co- chairman of the Nordic Pakistan Business Summit, told the Nation on Tuesday, quoting Finnish customs statistics.
“It is just one example of the positive trade interaction between the two countries, Naaka said, reminding, “Many projects are in the pipeline and many are to be materialised soon.”
Representatives from more than 50 Nordic and Finland companies came to Pakistan to attend a two-day conference that concluded on Tuesday.
At the forum, they interacted with local business community to explore new avenues of cooperation. This was the third summit.
The first two were held in 2014 and 2015. The organisers termed it a successful event.
"The idea was not just to take companies from countries like Finland, Sweden, Norway or Iceland to Pakistan, but also to give Pakistani companies the opportunity to enter the very lucrative Nordic market,” Wille Eerola, Chairman of the Summit said.
He said both sides faced same challenges. “Nordic companies don't understand the dynamics and opportunities of the Pakistani market, while the Pakistani companies are not aware of the purchasing power of the common Nordic market with only 26 million people.
“This summit is aimed at building that bridge between companies of both the regions,” he said.
The businessmen from both the countries discussed opportunities in sustainable energy, education and healthcare sectors, and were optimistic that in coming days, trade between Pakistan and Finland and Nordic Countries would further increase.
