Govt sticks to 2 gas holidays decision

ISLAMABAD - Federal Government has refused to own SNGPL decision to suspend gas supply from 06:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. to CNG stations and warned that action would be taken against concerned general managers for violating cabinet decision of observing two holidays a week for the said sector. Director General (Gas) of Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources, Mansoor Muzaffar Ali, through a letter asked the MD SNGPL not to suspend the gas supply to CNG stations from 06:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. in urban areas of Punjab and the NWFP. It would be violation of cabinet decision if CNG stations were closed in these timings. According to the said letter, It has come to the notice of Federal Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Syed Naveed Qamar that some regional offices of SNGPL have issued notices to the CNG stations to keep their stations closed from 06:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. on daily basis, which is against the cabinet decision. It is worth mentioning here that on January 5, SNGPL issued notices to the CNG stations that gas supply would be suspend from 06:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. in urban areas of Punjab and the NWFP. However All Pakistan CNG Association rejected the said plan and offered to keep their business closed from 06:00 p.m. to 08:00 a.m. The letter written to MD SNGPL further said that Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources is fully cognisant of the gas demand supply gap and low-pressure problems. Any action extraneous to what has been stipulated by the Federal Government be only taken after the Chairman All Pakistan CNG Association be taken on board invariably, otherwise action will be taken against concerned General Managers for violating the cabinet decision.
