Farmers advised to sow certified corn varieties

LAHORE - The Punjab Agriculture Department has advised corn growers to sow certified varieties for good yield. A spokesman for the department said on Friday that certified varieties included Sahiwal-2002, MMRI, Pearl, Hybrid FH-810, adding that farmers could get hybrid seeds from private dealers.
Meanwhile, the spokesman also advised green gram (Moong) growers to select sandy loam soil for the cultivation of the crop as it was most suitable for its growth. He said that growers should sow certified varieties including Moong Nayyab 2006, Arzi Moong 2006 in irrigated areas while Chakwal M-6 should be sown in rain-fed areas.
