Goods transporters call off strike on governor’s intervention

KARACHI : The representatives of United Goods Transporters Alliance have decided to end their six days long strike after meeting with Sindh Governor Dr. Ishrat-ul-Ebad. He also assured that the payment of compensation would be made as early as possible with the consultation of Federal Govt. Earlier, the demands of the transporters were discussed at a meeting chaired by Sindh Governor.  The Commissioner Karachi briefed the meeting about the progress on the issues of goods transporters.  He said that the work is on advance stage to fulfill the three main demands of transporters including decrease in tax, allotment of land by the KPT and payment of compensation amount. 

The Commissioner informed that the assurance has been given by the FBR to decrease the registration fee from 5 percent to 2 percent while SRO in this regard will be issued soon.  The Chairman KPT who was also present in the meeting assured that the transporters’ issues related to KPT would be resolved within due course of time.
Additional Inspector General of Police, Karachi assured that check posts would be established as per demand of the transporters by December 7, 2013.
The meeting was also attended among others by the Provincial Transport Minister and the Sindh Chief Secretary.
