AJK plans for hydel power generation

MIRPUR (AJK) - In order to meet the increased demand of energy the AJK government has kicked off an integrated plan to make AJK self-supported and self-sufficient in power production.
AJK is blessed with the huge natural resources for the generation of over 20 thousand megawatt of hydel power and government has decided to utilize these resources.
The phased-plan involves the utilization of huge available potential of hydel power generation with the coordination of the private power sector for not only to meet local need of 400 MWbut also to assist Pakistan for meeting the required energy needs of the country, Official sources told APP Sunday.
Elaborating the salient features ofthe plan, sources revealed that under the plan the hydel power generation stations comprising the power production capacity of at least two to six megawatt of power are proposed to be established at the selected sites with the cooperation of the Private Power Production Board. At the same time constriction work is in full swing on mega hydel power generation project of 969 MW Neelam Jhelum Hydel power project in Muzaffarabad district.
The 135MW Hydel Power Project at Rajdadhani and 5-MW hydel power project at Jari Kass are also been launched soon in the public sector under the supervision of AJK Hydro Electric Board, the sources added. State-run Kundal Shahi Hydel Power project in Neelam valley district is successfully operating to meet the power requirement of the population of the area.
