ISLAMABAD (APP) - Engineering Development Board (EDB) here Friday finalised the outline for electronic policy to address the issues faced by the electronic goods manufacturers in the country. Convener of the Group Mian Muhammad Javed chaired the meeting. Chief Executive Officer of (CEO) EDB, Asad Elahi and 36 representatives of the industry and concerned government organisations was also present in the meeting. The outline contains background of electronics industry and its current status with market potential, international scenario, SWOT analysis, short and long strategies, role of government and private sectors. The matters relating to make the policy sustainable, human resource development, resource mobilisation and creation of electronic parks establishment of CPCS & ESCS in the country was formed part of it. The meeting also discussed and prioritised the list of 34 products, which were divided into four parts " consumer, industrial and components. Its identified the potential of un-organized sector and considered measures to tap the available talents for SME's. The Group formulated five sub-groups to formulate draft recommendations in the areas of tariff issues, technology transfer, capacity building and quality standardization. It may be recalled that EDB had undertaken the task of devising a policy for the development of electronic sector of the country and formed a working group of stakeholder to make recommendations. It will also form the provision of an incentive package for potential investors for the manufacturing of electronics parts and components both for the local and export markets.
