LAHORE - The worst ever flood after causing breach of Tauri Bund caused widespread destruction in towns of Karampur, Ghouspur, Jacobabad, Thai Garhi Khero, Shahdadkot and other areas and entered Dadu District with ferocious intensity. The floods have severely affected the operations of Zamzama Gas Field reducing SSGCs share of production from 240mmcfd to 70mmcfd early this week. The BHP Billiton-operated Zamzama Gas Field located close to the small town of Juhi, situated 10 kms from Dadu, is capable of producing 500 million cubic feet of gas and a further 300 barrel of condensate per day. The fresh floods totally inundated two wells of Zamzama Gas Field which forced the BHP management to close down the remaining six wells with effect from September 3, 2010. The closures led to BHP decreasing its gas production to SSGC and SNGPL from 430 mmcfd to 208 mmcfd which caused SSGC to promptly implement gas load management plan. The sudden shortfall was managed by curtailing gas to KESC, Kotri Power Plant, Jamshoro Power Plant, Fauji Power Plant and other bulk customers. Similarly, SNGPL too faced difficulties as a result in shortfall of gas and had to curtail the supply to the power plants in its franchise areas.
