Minister chairs 182nd Board of Directors meeting of TIP

ISLAMABAD (PR): 182nd Board of Directors meeting of Telephone Industries of Pakistan (TIP) was convened here in Islamabad. The meeting was chaired by Minister of State for IT Anusha Rahman. Federal Secretary IT Azmat Ali Ranjha, Acting MD T.I.P Muddassar Hussain, Member Legal Ameena Sohail and other Board Members were present in the meeting.
On recommendation of the Finance Committee, the Board has accorded the approval of TIP budget. The chairperson (minister) was also informed that as approved in previous board meeting, the formal notification for the appointment of new MD TIP Zia-ul-Haq has been issued.
Anusha Rahman said that Government of Pakistan is committed for revitalization of TIP. Minister directed new TIP management to prepare a complete tangible and implementable revitalization plan within next three months.
The Minister also directed Secretary IT to take up the matter of all outstanding recoveries with top management of PTCL and NRTC on urgent basis.

Pak exhibitors at Heimtextil trade fair attract warm response

KARACHI (Staff Reporter): Heimtextil is one of the largest international trade fairs of world for home and contract textiles and the global benchmark for quality design textiles of innovative functionality. As the first trade fair of the year, it is a platform for manufacturers, retailers and designers.
This year around 2600 exhibitors from around 60 countries are participating in the event and like every year more than 60,000 buyers from around 130 countries are excepted to place orders in  the event.
Pakistan is the 4th largest exhibitor in the event with around 220 exhibitors out of which 48 exhibitors are participating under TDAP umbrella at Pakistan pavilion.
Pakistan Pavilion was jointly inaugurated by S M Muneer, Chief Executive, TDAP of Pakistan and Syed HasanJaved, Ambassador of Pakistan to Germany on 14th January, 2015. Hometextile is one of the most important export industry of Pakistan and exhibitors from Faisalabad, Karachi, Lahore and other important textile producing cities of Pakistan are participating in the event.
Pakistan’s export to EU have increased by around US$ 1 billion since the grant of GSP Plus status from 1st January 2014.
Similarly, Pakistan’s export to Germany have also been estimated to have increased by around US$ 230 million in the period January to Oct. 2014 (i.e. 10months of the calendar year 2014).
This year’s event carries all the more importance when the European buyers are building upon their last year’s successful business partnership with Pakistan especially when Pakistan gotten back on the track to industrial progress. With the improvement in energy availability and less power cuts it is expected that through events like Heimtextil, Pakistan will emerge as one of the major player in the Europian textile markets.
In order to best market the products of Pakistan in Heimtextil this year, the TDAP has taken several steps:
The promotional stand at the entrance of hall 10 by a renowned designer to merge traditional art and modern textile design into an attractive display of Pakistani home and house textiles to all visitors entering the hall.
The Pakistan Pavilion is constructed in recognizable modern design and colours.
The Pakistani exhibitors at Heimtextil 2015 are displaying full and attractive range of products in pleasing styles and vibrant colours. There would be continuous flow of trade visitors and the exhibitors will be able to meet with a good number of prospective buyers.

Unilever Talent Hunt showcases future business leaders
LAHORE (PR): The grand finale of the Unilever Talent Hunt (UTH) concluded at a local hotel, with students from IoBM winning the chance to represent Pakistan at Unilever’s Future Leader’s League in London.
The Unilever Talent Hunt (UTH) is a business competition aimed at building a stronger employer brand amongst the best universities of Pakistan, providing students the opportunity to showcase their academic and strategic acumen. In 2014, Unilever built the competition on the platform of the Unilever Sustainable Living Plan (USLP) to create awareness and also provide students with a chance to contribute to the USLP. This year’s competition focused on the sustainability agenda of six brands, including Lifebuoy, Dove, Pureit, Walls, Blue Band and Surf Excel. These brands are leveraging Unilever’s global learnings to inspire people to take small, everyday actions to create a brighter future for us all.
UTH 2014 targeted 11 universities across Pakistan through campus activations, reaching a total of 1,100 students from a diverse background including business, fashion and engineering. As a result, a total of 300 registrations (50 per brand) were received, which is three times the registrations from 2013. Following the short-listing, a total of 13 teams were mentored by Unilever over the course of 4 weeks and provided funding to test their ideas on-ground, with just 6 teams moving onwards to the finale.

The Unilever Talent Hunt provides participants the opportunity to represent Pakistan at the Future Leader’s League, which is a global competition that brings together students from across the world to experience the nuances of future leadership. The winners of the Pakistan leg will also get direct access to the Unilever Future Leaders Program (UFLP) Assessment Center, which is a first step towards employment as a Management Trainee at Unilever in Pakistan.
