'No increase in LPG price'

ISLAMABAD (Online) - Jamshoro Joint Venture Limited (JJVL), one of Pakistans largest LPG producers, has strongly refuted news reports that claimed prices of Pakistan-made Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) had been increased by an alleged Rs 8 per kilogram. According to a press release issued here on Monday, spokesman for JJVL said that producer prices of Pakistan-made liquefied petroleum gas have not been increased. Producer prices have remained unchanged since the last revision that was made on November 3, a spokesman for JJVL said on Monday. Prices are revised on a monthly basis in compliance with Pakistans LPG Policy, he said. We strongly refute and reject false and mischievous claims to the contrary which are being made to damage the reputation of investors and mislead the public. Inclusive of federal excise duty and general sales tax, JJVLs current ex-plant price for November is Rs. 72,639 per metric ton. It was Rs. 60,939 per metric ton in October. The ex-plant price notified by state-owned PARCO and the Oil and Gas Development Company Limited for the current month is Rs.79,425 per metric ton. JJVLs producer price is lower than the prices notified by state-owned LPG producers, said the company spokesman. JJVL took this decision in order to ensure the availability of affordable LPG throughout the country, he said. We are importing product on a regular basis to ensure stability in prices, which remain unchanged. The spokesman said LPG producer prices vary on a monthly basis because they remain linked to Saudi LPG export prices in accordance with the January 2007 decision of the then government. The so-called 'LPG LPG Distributors Association of Pakistan is an illegal organization whose self-proclaimed chairman has nothing to do with the LPG sector, he said. The paper organizations alleged chairman, Irfan Khokhar, was an employee at one of JJVLs associated companies whose services were terminated on account of corruption. After his dismissal from the private sector, Khokhar was made a spokesman of the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) by Qasim Zia, a member of the Punjab Assembly and president of PHF. LPG pricing follows a transparent mechanism, said the company spokesman. We deeply regret recurring false claims about pricing that are a great disservice to Pakistans LPG consumers, he said. We urge the media to ensure that actual prices are duly informed to LPG consumers to empower them, and to prevent any instances of profiteering or malpractice.
