Korangi suffers Rs 2b loss due to loadshedding

KARACHI - The unannounced and uninterrupted loadshe-dding by the KESC in Korangi industrial area has created tremendous hardships to the industries for the last two days. The industries being operated in the jurisdiction of Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI) alone has suffered a monetary loss of Rs 2 billion during the last four days due to massive loadsh-edding in this area. KATI has brought this issue in the notice of Karachi Electric Supply Corporation, saying that the unannounced and abrupt power cut-off by the KESC has caused huge losses to the industries. Chairman KATIs Sub-Committee on KESC, Najmul Arfeen, has demanded of the KESC official to immediately restore power to the KIA as the loadshedding would cause irreparable loss to the economy and many industries would be closed down. KESCs Deputy CEO, Aamir Zia, assured the KATI representatives that the power supply would be normalized within 24 hours in KIA. Meanwhile, Chairman Pais-tan Tanners Association Aziz Ahmed and Vice Chairman Hamid Zahoor also expressed concern over the 4-hours load shedding in industrial areas which KESC has started from a couple of days back without any intimation or consulting industry despite earlier assurances that industry will be exempted from load-shedding so that its production is not affected.
