Services deficit decreases as exports surge over 23pc

ISLAMABAD (APP): The exports of services witnessed robust growth by 23.31 percent during the first month of the current fiscal year as against the same month of last year, Federal Bureau of Statistics reported. The exports of service were recorded at $365 million during July 2011 as against the exports of $296 million in July 2010, showing an increase of 23.31 percent. However, services imports into the country witnessed positive growth of 7.86 percent during the month under review by growing form $560 million in July 2010 to $604 million in July 2011, according to FBS data. Bases on these provisional figures, the deficit in services trade was decreased by 9.47 percent during July 2011 as compared to the deficit of July 2010. On the other hand, the services trade deficit during July 2011 decreased by 35.92 percent when compared to the deficit of June 2011. The services trade deficit in July was recorded at $239 million as against the deficit of $373 in June 2011. As compared to the services exports of $434 million in June 2011, the exports in July, however witnessed decrease of 15.90 percent. The services imports into the country also witnessed negative growth of 25.15 percent in July 2011 when compared to the exports of $807 million in June 2011, the data revealed.
