LAHORE - Pakistan Railways on Thursday resumed its cargo services after long period of six years as the first cargo train carrying 40 containers and having a total merchandise of 980 tones arrived at Lahore Dry Port.
Chief Traffic Manager Pakistan Railways Altaf Hussain, Chairman Customs Clearing Agents Association Amjad Ch and other office bearers of the association welcomed the cargo train.
On this occasion, the Chief Traffic Manager announced to resume all other cargo trains that have been stopped in the past. He said that all over the world freight trains are considered a source of revenue generation while the passenger trains run to facilitate the masses. Therefore, the minister for railways has taken a right step to resume cargo services.
He said that the cargo train would not only create jobs for more than six thousand families but would also give boost to the economic activities that have turned stagnant as far as Lahore Dry Port is concerned.
