Women empowerment is key to economic turnaround

LAHORE - Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) Vice President Hameed Akhtar has said that women empowerment is key to economic turnaround and the incentives to facilitate women entrepreneurs must be enhanced for this purpose.
He was delivering his speech at a seminar on “Women Empowerment and Development” which was jointly organized by FPCCI and All Pakistan Women Association (APWA) here on Monday.
Chairperson of the FPCCI Women Empowerment Committee Dure Shawar said that the government in collaboration with the chambers of commerce and other trade bodies in the country should evolve a roadmap for the up gradation of women entrepreneurs. He urged the government to allocate special funds in coming federal budget for the up gradation of women entrepreneurs.
Speaking on the occasion, UNESCO Consultant Andrew Seniol, appreciated Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) for extending an active support for the cause of women empowerment. UNESCO International Consultant Prof. Sajida Haider said that women, who make well over fifty percent of total population, cannot be kept away from mainstream development in the country. He urged women to come forward to play their role for the well-being of people.
Dr. Zarqa suggested that Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) must double the incentives given to women entrepreneurs.
FPCCI Former Vice President S.M Naseer Said that FPCCI wants to ensure enabling environment for business women. He added that the government, in collaboration with the chambers of commerce and other trade bodies in the country, must evolve a roadmap for promoting women entrepreneurs. He urged the government to allocate special funds in the next federal budget for the development of women entrepreneurship.
