Govt doesn't have sufficient funds to pay pharma industry dues

LAHORE - Member of Center Executive Committee of Pakistan Pharmaceutical Manufacturer Association (PPMA) Shehzed Akram has blamed the Punjab Government for issuing cheques which remained dishonoured. Addressing a press conference at Lahore Press Club on Tuesday, he said that Punjab Government has not sufficient funds to pay dues of Pharma industry as such the cheque paid to them members of this body not being honoured by the banks. Mian Asad briefed that 95 percent of the raw materials used for manufacturing medicines were imported and because of devaluation of the rupee, it has become difficult to continue provision of medicines at the existing prices. On the occasion members of CEC of PPMA demanded of the government and Ministry of Health to allow uniform pricing of products to save the industry and to impose ban on finished medicines as long as they were being manufactured indigenously and chalk out a proper import policy. They also urged the media to confirm any information from PPMA before publishing.
