LAHORE - The government should take instant measures to overcome the ongoing worst energy crisis taking the opposition parties also onboard, who should also play positive role on national issues.
This was stated by All Pakistan Business Forum former president while talking to the journalists here on Saturday.
He said the government has to take measures on war footing to enhance the power generation, as the situation was fast heading towards a point of no return.
He said that business community is the biggest victim of prolonged power outages that were hampering the industrial growth. To a question, he said that the government would have to weed out the menace of smuggling and under-invoicing before implementing any tax avoidance measures. He said that it was very unfortunate that instead of widening tax base and bringing the untaxed sectors into the tax net, steps are being taken to squeeze the existing tax payers. Responding to another query, Rashid Mehr, who is also CEO of TUV Austria Bureau of Inspection & Certification (formerly the Moody International) said that business community will continue to support Pakistan Armed Forces who are offering sacrifices in operation Zarb-e-Azub to ensure peace and stability in the country as peace is prerequisite for attracting investment. Business doing people of the country would contribute maximum resources for early rehabilitation of the IDPs, he added. APBF former President said that the consumers of the efficient distribution companies with lowest line losses and the highest recovery ratio should be treated fairly. Rashid Mehr said that one hand masses in general and business community in particular are facing dreadful loadshedding while repeated increases in tariff is adding fuel to the fire.
Rashid Mehr urged the government to ensure early completion of water and hydropower projects on war footing as energy shortage was not only hampering the industrial production but was also a serious threat for economic growth.
