TCP awards contracts for 100,000 MT urea; receives 35 bids for cotton tender

KARACHI (APP) - Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) has awarded contracts to two lowest bidders for the supply of 50,000 metric tons of urea each at $ 290.40 and 294.72 per metric ton C & F basis respectively. A TCP sources said here Monday that the tenders were floated early this month and bidding was held on October 15 and 17, 2009 respectively. M/s Keytrade of Switzerland and M/s Amber Fertilizers of Hong Kong were the lowest bidders in these tenders. A total of 13 contestants had participated in the bidding and offered C & F prices ranging between $ 290.40 to $ 570 per tonne. So far, TCP had awarded contracts for a total of 425,000 MT of urea against seven tenders. The corporation had floated four tenders for the supply of 600,000 MT and seven tenders for the supply of 700,000 MT of urea. It may be noted that ECC had asked TCP to make arrangement for the import of 600,000 MT of urea to ensure its sufficient availability in the rabi season. Meanwhile, Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) has received 35 bids against its tender for local sale and export of 28,800 bales of cotton 2008-09 crop of various grades on as is where is basis. A TCP source said here Monday that the decision on this tender will be taken on October 21, 2009 during a meeting of price evaluation committee. He said that the bidders for local sale have quoted prices in the range of Rs 2,777 to Rs 3,527 per maund for various grades while exporters have quoted prices in the range of US cents 49.08 to 49.58 per ounce.
