Nepra issues schedule of public hearings for fuel adjustment charges

ISLAMABAD - National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) on Friday issued schedule of public hearings for the fuel adjustment charges for the month of August 2014, for EX-Wapda distribution companies and determination of consumer end tariff for financial year 2014-15.
According to data submitted by the Central Power Purchasing Company (CPPA) during the month of July, 4,282 Gwh, which are 41 percent of the total power generation, were produced from hydel, 3236 GWh, which is 31 percent of total production from RFO (Refined Furnace Oil), 1889 GWH, which is 18 percent of total production were generated from gas. 43 GWH were imported from the neighbouring country, Iran, while only .36 percent of total production that is 37 GWH were generated from wind. The data shows that total electricity delivered to power distribution companies of the country during the month of August was 10,234.94 Gwh worth Rs69.404 million. After the math per unit cost became 6.7811 against the reference fuel charges of Rs. 7.0755. The difference between actual expense incurred and reference price was calculated .2944/kWH. Islamabad Electric Supply Company IESCO in its application has pleaded for the approval of tariff. It has requested Rs 1.61 Kwh distribution margin and average sale rate / tariff at Rs 14.95 /kWh.




IESCO has a small area as compare to other distribution companies but the capital based company has claimed that its line losses are 9.44 percent.


 The hearing will be held on September 24. Despite several and strict directions of Senate standing committee IESCO chief Yousaf Awan has not been removed, yet.

Committee has observed that in the extension of service of IESCO chief was illegal; Awan was given extension from PM office, whereas board is the authority to make such decisions”, it said.
