The Ashgabat interstate agreement of the member state on commencement of the practical implementation of the TAPI project signed in 2010 serves as the basic document for promotion of the project. At this stage, a legal framework has been created for addressing issues related to the formation of a TAPI consortium which will provide financing and construction of the power line. The design capacity of TAPI is 33 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year.
The estimated length reaches 1735 kilometres. President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguli Berdimuhamedov said in his message to the participants of the opening of the exhibition and conference ‘Turkmenistan’s Oil and Gas’ (OGT-2013) that real progress is being observed in the implementation of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India gas pipeline project (TAPI).
“I would like to emphasise that a great progress is observed in the implementation process of Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India gas pipeline project (TAPI),” the message said.
The president stressed that Turkmenistan, which has great hydrocarbon reserves and is located in a favorable geopolitical position considers the reliability and security of hydrocarbon supplies to world markets as an important element of sustainable development.
