Agri dept for maximum wheat production

SIALKOT -  The Agriculture department will provide full assistance and guidance to wheat growers for attaining the maximum yield and enhancing wheat crop average in the province.

Talking to APP here on Sunday, the agriculture department sources said that over 1.68 crore acres of land would be brought under wheat crop during Rabi-crop-season in wheat growing parts of the Punjab, adding that for attaining the fixed target of wheat crop, the department had finalised arrangements. They said that in Gujranwala division wheat would be cultivated on 25.50 lakh acres of land, adding that the district wise break-up of wheat cultivation in Gujrat is 3.78 lakh acres, Mandi Bahaud Din 3.54 lakh acres, Sialkot 5.10 lakh acres, Narowal 3.79 lakh acres, Gujranwala 5.59 lakh acres and Hafizabad 3.87 lakh acres.

They said the department had initiated "Farmers Training Programme" under which wheat growers 0f 1431 villages of the district imparted training about latest wheat production techniques, utilisation of fertilisers and pesticides aimed at attaining maximum per acre wheat yield.

Special steps had also been taken for checking sale of fake and substandard pesticides and fertilisers in Sialkot, Daska, Sambril and Pasrur and for ensuring the provision of quality pesticides and fertilisers to the wheat growers, the sources added.
