LAHORE  - The Philip Morris Pakistan Limited (PMPKL) has installed solar panels at its manufacturing facilities in Kotri and Sahiwal, with the combined capacity of 458.6 kilowatt peak (kwp).
The solar panels are also capable of CO2 emission reduction by up to 362 tonnes/annum.
The PMI has also developed a Global Energy Management Programme (EMP), which consists of more than 20 energy reduction initiatives.
These initiatives have led to the implementation of more than 100 global projects since 2010 to decrease the energy use and related CO2 emissions in PMIs’ manufacturing facilities worldwide.
“Introduction of eco-friendly solar panels at PMPKL’s factories demonstrates our commitment to sustainability and energy saving. In the context of Pakistan, we realise that by utilising viable energy-saving technology and adopting sustainable practices, companies like ours can have a very positive impact,” commented PMPKL Director Operations Alejandro Okroglic.
The Philip Morris International (PMI) has set ambitious emission reduction targets, which include a long-term commitment to a 20 percent reduction in fossil-fuel related energy and CO2 emissions from our factories by the end of 2015, and a 30 percent reduction in its carbon footprint across the whole value chain by 2020.
Furthermore, PMI is actively backing reforestation efforts in Pakistan, in areas where wood is used for tobacco production.
Under the programme, more than one million saplings were planted in 2015 in district Attock. This was done to promote healthy agricultural practices and support environmental sustainability.
