KARACHI – Consul-General of Thailand in Karachi Wichai Sirisujin has recognised the vibrant role of Karachi Chamber to promote trade and industry while exchanging his views with Karachi Chamber of Commerce & Industry’s President Mian Abrar Ahmad and members of KCCI.
He attached importance to effective interaction between private sectors of two countries to increase bilateral trade.
He said that trade was not balanced hence two sides should sit together to deliberate and explore more possibilities of economic and commercial cooperation with open mind and remove obstacles which were hindering the two-way trade.
He assured his best possible support to KCCI to facilitate the business community. He agreed that possibilities of cooperation in food processing do exist and private sectors of two countries should explore it.
He said that deliberation were underway to devise framework to start negotiation for PTA between two countries. 
KCCI President Mian Abrar Ahmad urged the Thai investors to enter into joint ventures in cool chains, food processing and Halal food sectors.
Talking to Thai Consul-General, he asserted upon the need of building trading blocks of Pakistan with Asian countries, Central Asian Republics and SAARC countries.
He focused that Pakistan is located in between these three blocks and due to its geo-strategic position, Thailand and the countries worldwide may exports to these blocks through Pakistan.
He lamented that Pakistan was never allowed economic independence and liberty by the developed countries which they allowed to Bangladesh, India, Malaysia and Vietnam in the region.
He also enlightened the Thai Consul General about the key role of Karachi Chamber in the socio-economic development of Pakistan and informed about the aims of KCCI to develop regional trade.
He urged the Consul General to suggest and convince the Bangkok Chamber to form joint Chamber with KCCI on the pattern of Pakistan-Afghanistan Joint Chamber which KCCI formed last year. He also highlighted possibilities of joint ventures in food processing, Halal foods, gems & jewellery, footwear, garments, tourism, computers and electrical appliances.
