Yet another electricity bomb in the making; NEPRA moved for power hike

Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) Wednesday requested National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) to further raise power tariffs by two rupees per unit.
According to the NEPRA, the purchasing agency submitted a petition to NEPRA to hike power tariffs by two rupees/unit under fuel adjustment for the month of April.
According to the NEPRA officials, electricity totalling 6.57 billion units was sold to distributing companies during April and of this 41 percent of power was produced from costly furnace oil.
The reference fuel cost of the electricity for April was Rs.7.69 per unit. The fuel cost on the power generation was Rs. 9.69.
It should be mentioned here that it was just on Tuesday when the NEPRA hiked power tariffs by Rs. 2.38/ unit for the month of February and March.
