Body formed to look into gas, power tariff issue

KARACHI - Federal Minister for Water and Power Raja Pervez Ashraf has constituted a Parliamentary Committee to look into the issue of increase in gas and electricity tariff for both industrial as well as other consumers. Chairman, All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) Muhammad Iqbal Ebrahim in a statement issued to the press after meeting with Raja Pervez Ashraf, Federal Minister for Water and Power at Governor House, Karachi said that the news item published in local press today that Gas Companies sought 33% increase in tariff and unbearable increase in electricity tariff of approximately 60% by PEPCO/KESC was discussed in detail. Muhammad Iqbal Ebrahim further informed that the Parliamentary Committee constituted by the Federal Minister for Water & Power will be comprised of Parliamentarians and Members from the Private Sector and present its report within 10 days after analysing the issue of 60% increase in electricity bills and the proposed 33% increase in gas tariff on all Pakistan basis. Minister assured that in future this Parliamentary Committee would decide about any changes in electricity and gas tariff, he added.
