Fish biodiversity moot today

LAHORE - A unique seminar on Conservation of Fish Biodiversity is being held at Chashma Barrage on March 24. The purpose of the seminar is to increase production of various species of fish. Secretary Forests, Wildlife & Fisheries, Babar Hassan Bharwana will be the chief guest at the seminar which will be attended by leading scientists from all over the country. According to an official handout, Director General Fisheries Dr Muhammad Ayub stated this on Tuesday. He said that the department is endeavouring for increasing production of various varieties of fish. He said that a hatchery over 29 acres of land was set up by WAPDA near Chashma Lake but no serious effort was made for increasing production of fish in the water reservoir during the last three decades. He said that Chashma Barrage was constructed over River Sindh in district Mianwali having large water reservoir, which is over 64000 acres of land.
