Chinese locomotives’ performance up to mark: Railways GM

LAHORE - Pakistan Railways General Manager has dispelled the impression about failure of new Chinese locomotives, saying their performance is up to mark.
GM (Operations) Anjum Pervaiz, while addressing a press conference at Railways Headquarter on Friday, said that drivers and staff of the Railways needed some time to fully understand the working of new engines. He said the new High RPM locomotives were efficient and their fuel consumption was better than others.
He was accompanies by Additional General Manager (Traffic) Javaid Anwar Boobak and Chief Mechanical Engineer (Locomotives) Tariq Khan.   The government took on board all relevant engineers before bringing new engines from neighbour country, said Pervaiz, adding the purchase order was given after removing all concerns of the PR engineers by representatives of companies Caterpillar (USA), Wabtec (USA), Westinghouse (USA) and Yongji (China).  “Instructors, engineers, technicians and a computer operator were sent for training to China to understand the working of engines and 150 drivers had been trained as well.” He requested media not to highlight minor issues in performance of new locomotives as these technical issues would be removed after minor inspection. He said Chinese locomotives were under warranty for 36 to 60 months.
