LAHORE - All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA), Small & Medium Enterprises Development Authority (Smeda) and University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to implement Sustainable Energy Conservation programme for the textile industry. The EnMS programme was initiated by APTMA in cooperation with GTZ (German Technical Cooperation) and Smeda for the training of Energy Managers selected from member mills of APTMA. This programme was launched on October 9, 2008. Under the terms of MoU the Engineering University will provide training facility and related infrastructure to the participants of the training programme based on the various energy audits so far conducted by the National Productivity Organisation (NPO), German Technical Cooperation (GTZ) and other consultants. There are prospects to conserve 10 to 15 per cent energy by the textile mills. This will help the industry to achieve efficiency, reduce cost of doing business as well as conserve national resource. At the same time this opportunity has opened new vistas for industry academia linkages to jointly work on technological aspects of the industry.
