PR LAHORE - Thousands of candidates from BPS-l to BPS-5 are going to be recruited in the power distribution companies i.e. LESCO (Lahore), MEPCO (Multan), IESCO (Islamabad), FESCO (Faisalabad), GEPCO (Gujranwala), HESCO (Hyderabad), SEPCO (Sukkur), TESCO, PESCO (Peshawar) and QESCO (Quetta) in the near future. Some members of the national and provincial assemblies have been putting illegal pressure upon the management of those companies to recruit their nominees without any merit and criteria on the basis of nepotism and favoritism in violation of the rules of recruitment.
Veteran trade union leader, Khurshid Ahmed, general secretary All Pakistan WAPDA Hydro Electric Workers Union (CBA), in a press statement issued here on Friday urged the Prime Minister and Federal Minister for Water and Power to intervene against this nepotism and favoritism since their political party has pledged before the nation in its election manifesto to promote justice and merit in all walks of life including public service. The recruitment in the national public utilities on the basis of discrimination and without equal treatment to all citizens is also forbidden under Article-25 of the Constitution which ensured equality of treatment in employment and elimination of discrimination whereas the proposed recruitment will be flagrant violation of the fundamental rights of the young candidates who are otherwise entitled to be recruited on merit with equal treatment. He reminded the authorities that the cases of illegal recruitment of these posts in those public utilities in the past were annulled by the Lahore and Multan High Courts and those responsible were taken to task. The cases are still under process in NAB for their trial, the statement added.
