ISLAMABAD - The export of textile products has declined by 8.36 per cent in the first two months (July-August) of the current fiscal year 2009-10. According to the official figures released by the Federal Bureau of Statistics on Thursday, the export of textile group has decreased to $ 1.617 billion in the first two months against $ 1.765 billion of the same period of the last financial year registering a decline of over 8 per cent. The growth of textile sector is affected due to hours long load-shedding and unfriendly security situation in the country. In the textile group, the export of following items in the period under review increased as follows: raw cotton, 33.50 per cent; cotton yarn, 10.98 per cent; yarn, 29.54 per cent; readymade garments, 0.42 per cent; art silk and synthetic textile, 2.85 per cent; made-up articles, 3.13 per cent; and other textile materials, 31 per cent. According to the figures, the following items of textile group showed negative growth: cotton cloth, 27.30 per cent; cotton carded, 80.87 per cent; knitwear, 12.44 per cent; bed wear, 11.30 per cent; tents, 10.68 per cent; and ready made garments, 37.40 per cent; in the first two month of 2009-10.The figures shows that overall textile products are declined by 4.56 per cent in August 2009 against the figures in the corresponding period last year. On the other hand, the import of the textiles machinery also declined by 49.85 per cent during the last fiscal year. It may be mentioned here that trade deficit of the country has reached to $ 2.196b in the first two months of the current fiscal year as the country exported goods worth of $ 2.971b against the imports of $ 5.167b. Similarly the imports of transport sector also showed negative growth of 11.50 per cent in the period under review. In the transport group, import of road motor vehicles declined by 27.30 per cent, CBU, 49.62 per cent, buses, trucks and other heavy vehicles went down by 54.79pc, motor cycles, 95.75pc, and motorcars, 43.94pc, in the July-August of 2009-10 over July-August 2008-09.
