MA Shahid elected chairman BoD AMFB

 

LAHORE (PR): Mian MA Shahid was unanimously elected as chairman Board of Apna Micro-Financing Bank (AMFB) for the next three years. The election was made at the 75th meeting of the Board of Directors of AMFB was chaired by its chairman Qamar Zaman while President and CEO Abid Tung and all directors attended the meeting.  On the occasion, the board of directors unanimously elected Mian MA Shahid as a chairman for the next three years. He is been the chairman of the country renowned organisation United International Group (UIG) which comprising fourth largest insurance company of Pakistan i.e: United Insurance Company of Pakistan, SPI Insurance and United Track System. He is considered one of Pakistan's most successful business tycoons and was awarded life time achievement award by the Punjab governor. On the occasion, he thanked all the directors and pledged to utilise all-out resources for expanding operation of the banks and enhancing trust of the consumers in the organisation.

 

 

ICS, IAGS kick off drive on certified seed

 

LAHORE (Staff Reporter): A campaign titled "certified seed is the foundation of agriculture crop yield" has been launched by teachers and students of Institute of Communication Studies (ICS) along with Institute of Agriculture Sciences (IAGS).  Punjab Skills Development Programme project director Ameer Khan Khattak was the chief guest at the launching. He highlighted the importance of certified yield to enhance agriculture productivity.  Dr Anjum Ali Buttar, DG Agriculture (Ext & AR) Punjab, said that only certified seed can enhance 15 to 20 percent yield of different crops. He pointed out that though 0.8 million MT seed is required for wheat crop but only 150,000 MT certified seed is available in the market.  Khalid Khokhar, chairman Kissan Ittehad Pakistan, blamed the government for non-usage of certified seed. The campaign is organised by ICS director Dr Noshina Saleem along with IAGS director Dr Saleem Haider.

Teachers - Fahad Malik, Seemab Bukhari, Nasir Mumtaz and Adnan Zahid were the organisers along with students - Malik Abdul Razzaq, Maqsoodul Hassan, Haris Maqsood, Amjad Ali Kalyar, M Arif, Kiran Shabbir, Zulaikha Rashid, M Bilal and others. Journalist and anchor person Saghir Ramay also join the campaign. All speakers and participants along with the faculty members appreciated the efforts of Mass Communication students to highlight important aspects of certified seed.

 

 

SECP holds ‘Youth Investment Week’

 

ISLAMABAD (Staff Reporter): The Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan's "Youth Investment Week" is going on at the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) in Karachi.  It has been arranged in collaboration with the PSX and the National Clearing Company Pakistan Limited (NCCPL). In this connection, live thematic theater on savings and investment for the students of Karachi-based universities at the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) has been going on since September 21. It will end on September 27. The theatre as a medium of social change, through visual performing arts is widely accepted tool for cognitive learning and educating the masses. While implementing its investor education program, the SECP is especially focusing on youth and students to inculcate the culture of saving and investment in them from their student days. Ms Khalida Habib, director, SECP, welcomed the students and briefed them on the salient features of SECP's investor education program "JamaPunji".

Nadeem Naqvi, MD (PSX), explained to the participants the structure of Pakistan's capital market and its role in the economy of the country. The students appreciated the initiative, thanking the SECP for improving their knowledge and skills about savings and investment.

The main objective of the week is to promote savings and investment culture among the students and educate them about importance of saving money for contingencies and avoiding scams and frauds while investing their money. The SECP expects that awareness through theater will play an important role in promoting savings and investing.

 

66 motorcycles distributed among agriculture field staffers

MULTAN (APP): Parliamentary secretary on agriculture, MPA Rana Ijaz Ahmad Noon distributed 66 motorcycles among the agriculture field assistants, here on Saturday. The motorcycles were given in a ceremony held at Agriculture Farm of government, situated at old Shujabad road. While addressing the ceremony, Rana Ijaz Ahmad Noon said that provision of motorcycles would help creating awareness among farmers for modern agriculture technology. Similarly, it would enable farmers get advisory at their door step. On the instructions of Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, 2500 motorcycles are being distributed among the agriculture field assistants throughout province and the process would complete by September 30, said the parliamentary secretary. Noon added that initiative would help farmers to have easy access to modern agriculture technology in order to improve their per acre yield. The officials would move by their motorcycles from field to field and would also organize farmers gatherings to extend agriculture advisory services to them at their door step.
