LAHORE (PR): Pakistan Workers Confederation General Secretary Khurshed Ahmed has urged the Prime Minister to review the policy of privatization of national public utilities including electricity in the wider public interest. The experience of privatisation of Multan Electricity Supply Company and Rawalpindi Electricity Supply Company have proved failure since they were not even providing electricity to the urban areas what to speak of rural areas.
The consequences of privatization of Karachi Electric Supply Company is also another evidence of failure, despite receiving huge subsidy worth billions of rupees every years and subsidised rates from WAPDA has neither been paying electricity dues to WAPDA and PSO Gas nor raised any unit of generation to overcome load shedding and reduction of the cost of electricity.
