14-16 hours loadshedding as shortfall hits 6,000MW

LAHORE :  The national grid on Friday faced 6,000MW shortfall, around 60 per cent of the total generation, pushing countrywide electricity consumers to bear 14 to 16 hours loadshedding in severe heat. Majority of the power plants are out of fuel and major part of the generation is shared by hydel power plants. The big cities of Punjab like Lahore, Faisalabad and Multan are under the grip of 14 hours shutdown while the rural areas are facing around 18 hours blackout. Meanwhile, the ministry of finance, according to the reports, issued Rs200 billion to IPPs.
, which would ease the power sector’s liquidity problems and would help to add over 1,000MW to the national grid before the start of Ramazan. The electricity generation on Friday stood 11000MW against the demand of 17000MW.
