ISLAMABAD (PR): Keeping in view the importance of iodine for the human body particularly the vulnerable women and the children, Utility Stores Corporation (USC) has collaborated with Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) to increase the distribution of the adequately Iodized salt and eventually the iodine itself.
Currently, inclusion of iodized salt in processed foods is voluntary and no data is available how much of the industry is using the iodized salt in their food items. To encourage the food item suppliers to use the adequately iodized salt in the food items where the salt is an ingredient, Utility Sores Corporation in collaboration with GAIN conducted a panel discussion with the leading food item suppliers of UCS including the representatives from Qarshi Industries, Shan Foods, Colgate Palmolive and Unilever participated. Food technologist and the experts from various universities emphasized the importance of using iodized salt in the food items to decrease various health issues for the Pakistan population.
