FAISALABAD : The government has allowed mills to export 500,000 metric ton sugar to ensure payment to sugarcane growers. Sugar mills will export 250,000 metric ton sugar by October 31 and pay Rs 1.7 billion to sugarcane growers, said a spokesman for the Pakistan Sugar Mills Association on Sunday. He said sugar mills owners had requested the government that they had failed to pay Rs 1.7 billion to sugarcane growers due to financial constraints.
The ministry of trade and commerce after reviewing the request, allowed sugar mills to export 500,000 metric ton sugar. Out of the  total quantity, 250,000 metric ton sugar will be exported by October 31 whereas the remaining 250,000 metric ton after November 1. The government has also promised subsidy of Rs 1 per kg sugar on 500,000 metric ton exports, he added.
