Jewellery export up by 109 per cent in eight months

The country’s jewellery export grew by 108.94 per cent during the first eight months of current fiscal year (2011-12) as against the corresponding period of last year.    The jewellary export during July-February (2011-12) was recorded at $511.994 million against that of $245.045 million during July-February (2010-11), the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) reported. 
The export of gems, however, recorded 17.97 per cent decrease during the period under review against the corresponding period of last year.
The gems export decreased from $2.671 million during the period July-February 2010-11 to $2.191 during the same period of current fiscal year.
Similarly the export of furniture witnessed negative growth of 0.2 per cent from $4.422 million during the period July-February 2010-11 to $4.413 million during the same period of current fiscal year.
