Pak, France to cooperate in dairy, food processing sectors

LAHORE (APP) - There is a wide scope of joint ventures between France and Pakistan in dairy and food processing sectors. Mrs. Anne Bernard, Director of International Studies, the French Agency for International Business Development said this in a meeting with Shahid Rashid, Chief Executive Officer, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA). The meeting held at SMEDA head office was also attended by Ms. Sameera Neimat Rahoo, Commercial Attache, Environment, Agriculture Agro Food Industries, Economic Department, Embassy of France in Pakistan. Dairy Expert of SMEDA Adnan Ali, Ms. Naureen Anjum and Samiullah Bajwa accompanied CEO SMEDA on the occasion. Mrs. Anne Bernard informed that she had arrived Pakistan to carry out a study on milk sector in Pakistan; "Prospects for the dairy sector in Pakistan ", with focus on the market for dairy ingredients: milk powders and serum, milk fat, casein and derivatives, serum protein, lactose. This study is a part of a larger work done in many countries including Latin America, North Africa, Asia-Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, Philippines-, Europe and Russia over recent years, she added. The foreign guest evinced special interest to get awareness in the role played by SMEDA in development of dairy sector in Pakistan. She said that France was ready to transfer latest technology to Pakistan for improving milking equipment, Meet Genetics, Fodder harvesting, Meat processing, Dairy nutrition and feed testing laboratories. Shahid Rashid, CEO, SMEDA welcomed the French dairy expert and apprised her about the role of SMEDA in devising a comprehensive strategy for development of the dairy sector. He said that Pakistan , falling in the group of top five milk producing countries, had ample investment opportunities in commercial dairy farming, packaging and Mozzarella Cheese Production.
