Mush becomes a bad joke

GENERAL (retd) Musharraf seems to have lost any sense of propriety and is firing in all directions like an unguided missile. His statements not only undermine the national interests of Pakistan but are often distortions of facts. Some time ago he had made a bizarre declaration about Kashmir and Pakistan aiding extremists and militants across the LoC which did tremendous damage to the indigenous struggle of the Kashmiris in Occupied Kashmir, and aided Indian designs. Now, in the first meeting of his party in New York, he brazenly distorted history by declaring that Islam was not the basis for the creation of Pakistan. Given how Pakistan was all about securing a homeland for the Muslims of India and how the Quaid-i-Azam referred to the principles of Islam in connection with a welfare state and the economy, Musharraf needs to revisit history. Equally disturbing was his attempt to link himself to the Quaids banner by saying that now his party will carry this banner for Pakistan. How a military dictator with the stamp of corruption could even assume to take on the mantle of the arch democrat and rule of law advocate is mind boggling as it is insulting to the Quaids memory. But Musharraf in New York was like a man gone wild with a boast that if he ever came to power again he would repeat the Lal Masjid and Bugti killing over again. Just on this count he should come back and face the music in legal terms and Pakistan should ask the UK to hand him over. From his unrepentant harangue he went on to declare that Nawaz Sharifs efforts to try him on treason charges will never happen because he will never come to power. One is perplexed as to why he is uttering the absurdities one hears as he travels overseas in Britain and the US. Is he trying to please his Western audiences or is he delusional enough to think his disconnected rhetoric will actually appeal to the Pakistanis? Of course, wherever Musharraf goes there are often more protestors than audience, but the real issue is why we Pakistanis continue to waste our time giving him the attention he is seeking. At the end of the day, Musharrafs political relevancy will depend on how much attention and seriousness the Pakistanis give him so it is time one took him for the jester he is turning into than a serious political leader for the future that he is seeking to become. Such jokers should simply be ignored because they are seeking attention at all cost even if the nation has to pay in terms of negative fallout for the country. Certainly he should not be given serious news coverage which he covets.
