LAHORE - It cannot be said with certainty what will happen in the result of some notable figures bids’ to gather Muslim League factions minus PML-N at a single platform but what is sure is that the movers behind this political action have some kind of “unseen support”.
As the in camera efforts to unite anti-ruling Muslim League factions and individuals have been kicked off from Karachi with a meeting among General (r) Pervez Musharraf, All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) chief, Pir of Pagaro, head of PML (Functional) and Ghous Ali Shah, estranged PML-N leader, the actors in the new political game have also made a proposed plan for power-sharing in the possible alliance of various Muslim Leagues.
Sources in Muslim League factions part of this move told The Nation on Tuesday: “A proposed plan for power sharing among the various players in the possible alliance of the Muslim Leagues has been chalked out, while PML-Q, APML and PML-Functional are the main players along with the support of the angry PML-N leaders.”
According to the proposed power sharing plan: “PML-Q will lead the possible Muslim League alliance in Punjab, besides key position in the central leadership, PML-Functional to head Sindh, Musharraf’s APML to lead the coalition in Gilgit-Baltistan.”
The vacancies for Khyber Pukhtunkhawa in the result of the making of the under discussion multi-Muslim League alliance are vacant, while the situation in Balochistan is also not clear.
The position of the chairman of the possible alliance will be given to Pervez Musharraf because of his international recognition but the position below the chairman most likely to grab by the PML-Q, PML-Functional, while theses positions can be given to Khyber Pukhtunkhawa and Balochistan if some notable political figures join the action.
Sources informed that Moonis Elahi, son of PML-Q Punjab president Chaudhary Pervaiz Elahi, had met with Pervez Musharraf some days ago with a list of possible breakaways of the PML-N provided the bids for making a Muslim League alliance succeeds minus PML-N.
They claimed that many in the ranks of the ruling Muslim League were ready to part ways if they see some light at the end of the tunnel, as the politics was a game of timing and nobody would take the risk of exposing himself unless he was not sure about the success of the new game.
Aleem Adil Sheikh, PML-Q senior leader and heading the party in Sindh, told this correspondent that Pervez Musharraf and leaguers part of this effort were in contact with his party’s top leadership for the purpose.
He added that PML-Q high command had already met with Pervez Musharraf sometime back to launch the plan of unifying Muslim Leagues minus few of the PML-N.
Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed, Awami Muslim League (AML) head, when contacted said, “Though I have been contacted by the emissaries of Pervez Musharraf for playing my role for the purpose but I see no chances of the success of any such plan.”
Rasheed who was close to Musharraf during his regime, however added that he would meet his former boss at a later stage. At the moment he was the ally of Imran Khan and he has not considering leaving PTI chairman.
Ijazul Haq, another chief of his own faction of Muslim League under the name of PML-Zia, when called said, “I am not interested in any such alliance. No Muslim League coalition minus PML-N can be succeed. Pervez Musharraf is a retired army chief and it is out of his power to unite the Leaguers under his current position.”
He remarked: “I don’t see the future of such an alliance outside the borders of the Sindh, as the PML-N leaders interested in making a new faction in the name of unification of real Muslim Leaguers are now sitting outside.”
