rawalpindi - A police patrolling party came under heavy gunfire by three persons on Tahli Mohri Road near Kalma Chowk, sources told The Nation yesterday.
However, the patrolling squad remained unhurt and it arrested two out of three outlaws on charges of opening firing at police and terrorising people, they added.
Following the orders of Regional Police Officer Wisal Fakhar Sultan Raja, police lodged a case against the accused on terrorism charges, besides recovering weapon, bullets and a car from their possession, they said. The accused were identified as Faisal Farooq and Abid Khan who are being grilled by RA Bazaar police.
According to sources, the plaintiff Aqeel Sarwar, constable at Shah Faisal Police Post, lodged a complaint in which he stated that he along with other cops of Muhafiz Squad was on routine patrolling when they received information at 7:50pm that three outlaws were doing sporadic firing at Tahli Mohri Chowk by blocking road for traffic. Whereas, public was being terrorised, he mentioned. He said that a police team rushed to the crime scene to arrest the outlaws when they on seeing police party opened indiscriminate firing at police. However, cops remained unhurt and an outlaw Faisal Farooq along with 9mm pistol and 4 bullets was taken into custody and two others managed to escape from the scene. Police also recovered an abandoned car left over by fleeing attackers besides two dead shells of bullets, he said. Taking action, police registered a case against the accused under sections 324/353/186/337 H2 of PPC and 7 Anti Terrorism Act (7-ATA) and started investigation.
Police later managed to arrest another attacker while the third was still at large, sources added.
Separately, Regional Police Officer (RPO) Wisal Fakhar Sultan Raja yesterday issued show cause notices to two police officers for registering a bogus case against a citizen.
The police officers were identified as Inspector/ex-SHO police station Saddar Bairooni Mirza Shafique and Sub Inspector Muhammad Arshad.
According to details, a citizen namely Haris Iftikhar approached RPO Wisal Sultan and lodged a complaint that Saddar Bairooni police booked him in a bogus case number 30 under sections 447/511/337H despite the fact that he was not guilty. He requested the RPO to take legal action against SHO and investigation officer. Taking action, RPO issued show cause notices to two police officers and slight their reply.
